The reason I would prefer the short hood is the back opening of the hood was designed to be a few inches ahead of the windshield. All these long hood l-88 hoods jam it right up to the windshield
I just don't think it would function correctly. I will go with a wiper cover.
Do they still produce that filler panel? The other question I have is are the hood pins in the same location on a '68-'72 as '73 and up? Because I think they use different hood latches if I recall. I do like the look of the short hood further away from the windshield. Going the filler panel route w/ the short hood seems like it would be a much simpler avenue.
I picked up one of these stinger hood scoops which is just the back half of the original 427 stinger C2 hood from Speedway.
If you add on $40 of other items you get it all shipped for free (or I did when I bought it last year).
Nice item for the price.....
I have one of Eckler's original 427 stinger complete hood for my one 1975 project.
thinking L88 for the other one.
I'd sell the Speedway hood scoop for $45. But the best way would be to pick it up and pay cash. Otherwise do what I did....pay full price but get the free shipping by going to $99 total purchase.
i have been pondering putting a short hood on my 78 for the same reasons. what i have found so far is the hood latches on the hood would have to be moved ,( big difference in the latches from the short to long hoods ) i don't think that is a show stopper though , it would take some custom made stuff but its doable. the hood prop would have to be changed to the earlier style , and thats no big deal either. what has me concerned is the filler panel would still have to allow for the windshield wipers to be functional , that means clearance at the rear. i'm not so sure about the over all look of the filler panel being pleasing to the eye and achieving the desired look. the net result may very well be a filler panel that brings the look right back to a long hood. i guess the only way to know for sure is to put a short hood on and see

Don,
The filler panels as you fear do not at the windshield edge look very appealing, they are flared to allow the wipers to work like a long hood,
Its just me but i find the wiper door and short hood the best looking on c3s
years ago Frank Griegorian sold the wiper door cover originally used on the James Garner AIR Corvettes, not exactly sure who got the mold when Frank sold out, might have been Jim Cantrell in Tuscon AKA Vintage Exotics, either way it was a neat piece that allowed use of a short hood and no wiper door.
[QUOTE=bence13_33;1596131046]I'm pretty sure I already know the answer to this question but is there a version of the Baldwin Motion hood available for '75 and up Corvettes with the long style hood? I know there is the reproduction of the hood up to '74 that have the wiper door, I was just curious if anyone had come across the design for the long style hood?
The new motor is likely not going to fit under my L88 so I at the very least am going to have to step up to the h
A guy that makes chrome bumper conversions for late cars at my suggestion made me a wiper door that mimics the late model hood in the way it flares up to match the fenders and windshield .it's a nice piece and fits well. It may take some trimming on the lip, mine did not. All he has is an email.dtamustang@aol.com. I'm working on getting everything painted to match . The local paint shop that used to be real good sucks now.
I doubt that but possible, the z came out when 69? So it had show prototypes before that,
But its a bit moot as motion and a couple others doing the "round headlight buckets" in the early 70s were not after a z car look,
When the 68 coupe came out the rear was compared to a 4RE dino, and the bucket headlights were to bring that look forward.
Motion were kings of advertising no one in my age group could read car rags of the day and not recall motions centerfold ads,
Thats how they get credit for things they didnt do, like the mako kits, invented by john silva sold through motion,
As most people go, "john who?" And think motion invented it.
The motion phase hood was a 68 to 72 lt1 / bb hoi9d with the dips filled and a 67 427 scoop on top,
Guys made these before motion but motion made it famous,
I do not recall ever seeing a long one unless a cat built it,
One overpriced imo outfit sells a long for 73 to 82 cars lt1 bb hood on ebay you could add a 427 67 scoop on top of that,
Ecklers also has a hood called a stinger a long hood with 67 427 scoop,
Ecklers version of the short phase hood is different at the rear of the scoop compared to the motion phase hood,
They also made the Spyder Motion Hood. Only 4 cars made. I would love to know the conpany they got these hoods from as I want to know if mine is GM or a knockoff. I love it no matter. But it looks identical to the yellow Spyder pics..

Any long big block or L-88 hood would require a longer 427 scoop and would look goofy.
I have a short Baldwin hood for my 79 and a custom wiper door that matches the fender tops on my 79. When I figure out how I'm going to paint it I will be installing both parts

I always thought most cowls were ugly if the height went all the alway ro the window. That what I love about the hood I got. It tapers to stock height at window but is fat in middle. Here is the inside... I got a 406 with airgap intake and spacer and top and side flow filter.. I like the plan. And I like that it's not blocky like most cowls too. Mine has smooth transitions...
The hood on the ground next to the Nova was made by Gm and sold over the counter. They made them for race cars with L88 so you could convert your 68-72 race car to a 73 up. Greenwood used them on his cars . I have one and it has the air box made in it like the early L88 hoods, and is press molded.
I know this thread has been out here for a while, but I know a guy here in NJ that sells this hood new, with a mold made from an original Motion Hood.
The original hood is also available for sale...
PS, he also makes a wiper door eliminator panel.

Reason: additional info added
Is it functional? Sharp color!
Tpi..what is the link for that company you mentioned that makes those hoods?
Didnt the Monza have some type of stinger theme at one point?
