I did my 71 last year, Silver Sport kit, the fit and ease of install was super easy and perfect.
I helped a friend put his in in Oct. All we did was pull the fan / clutch, lift the motor and slide it forward a few inches - really a no issue install also. He went from a 4 speed to a TKO 600 -5 speed also from Silver Sport.
can you give a little more detail about what you did? You pulled the fan and removed the clutch or Clutch rod? before sliding the engine forward a few inches. Did you cut out the cross member and replace with a removable cross member?
I pulled the fan clutch , fan and lifted the engine and moved it forward toward the radiator. I did not cut the cross member.
I did put a piece of 3/8 plywood on the radiator for safety. The car has electric fans so there was no shroud to deal with. The nose of the motor should fit into the shroud .
You will have to remove the Z bar. Upper and lower radiator hose.
There are a few threads with the install in the car without moving the motor. I just felt the extra room was worth the few extra steps.
If you have tight hoses on the heater - you may have to remove them from the motor. Same goes for the power steering - I had plenty of room on both.
Make sure you have a quality clutch alignment tool if changing the clutch. It's hard to push on the clutch fork with the motor hanging.

What stops dirt from getting into the tailshaft housing through the opening for the shifter? I don't see that there is any kind of a cover over the opening.
when I do a manual trans reinstall I leave the trans in gear. The clutch alignment tool only centers the clutch disc relative to the pilot bearing. With the trans in gear you can rotate the output shaft to help align the splines on the clutch disc and input shaft. Pushing the clutch pedal allows the disc to float and align with the input shaft. Press on with this install, wanting to hear about that first test drive.

There is a small cover that goes over that area. The pictures just do not show it installed.

Also the straps on the shaft end seem to be a good idea , any trouble getting it together ?
great pics and a good story .
Yes it's a real nice looking drive shaft, it came from another location so they sub these out. Solid spicer U joints as well. No problems getting it in.
