Default Shocks for my 73 convertible..

Car rides good but shocks have been in there for around 16,000 miles......Looking to change.....

Any suggestions on a good riding shock over a performance shock? Monroe's ? Gabriel's? KYB is out, had them on another car and the ride was too harsh....

Bill Stein sports....all 4 corners....plastic VBP spring in rear 360 in mine 330 would be nicer riding maybe....but you have to ditch the steel spring...RIDE wise it was the largest improvement....

Stock replacements suit me just fine. Unless your present shock absorbers are leaking I wouldn't replace them. Shock absorbers can easily last 250,000 miles or more so there is seldom any need to replace them.

Why are you passing along such bad misinformation. You cannot be serious. 30-50k is a a far better mileage to use to change out standard issue shocks to get any measurable designed performance out of them. While at 250k they may still be attached to the car and not leaking anything, they are also not doing much damping at all.

Just replaced shocks on my 69 with Bilstein HDs. I know they were about 40 years old with about 12,000 miles I estimate. My car was a total garage queen before I bought her!! :-)) I could depress them with my index finger. They were Monroe gas shocks. Handles more like my C5 now. Ride is great with original stock springs. Do it!

What VERYSOON said. Bilstein HD shocks are the way to go with a stock rear spring. I put them on my 78 Pace Car and it made a world of difference in the ride and handling of the car. I highly recommend them!

If you have the stock (leaf) spring, you need Bilstien HD shocks all-around. If you have a monoleaf replacement spring in back, HD's in front and Sports in back.

Those shocks will last you for more than 10 years (if you are not a high-mileage driver).

Bilsteins have a lifetime warranty. Return them to San Diego office, and they will rebuild them or replace them at no charge.
(Been there, done that).
