I've read the history of the Corvette in mags. It was first going to be called a Corvair etc. Anyway I can't find what the heck it means. I know, I know. I'm a dummy and a disgrace. But I just want to know what it means and why did they name the car a Corvette. :seeya Terry
And it was very quick and maneuverable. Maybe that's why they chose the name. Also, I read that one criteria was that it had to begin with a "C" as many other Chevrolet cars did.
During the napoleonic wars(C.1793-1814), the french navy built small, fast and easy to manuover frigates. these ships were called corvettes. They were the answer to the British Royal Navy's Blockading Frigates. The British Frigates were built more sturdier to handle the weather and the long times spent asea on blockading duty. The French hoped to use speed and manoeverablity to defeat the British who prefered ship to ship broadside battles.
Thanks for the History lesson fellas. I guess that accounts for the The French Floura(sp) on the flag emblem of the 80 and 81s and some of others I think. Thanks for the info. Remember, "Asking is not the question. Asking is the answer." :seeya Terry

I think the "French Floura" has to do with Louis Chevrolet being of French heritage.
