Gary Box took a listen, and said it sounds like the rear end, even though it felt like the trans. Which ever it was, he said he could get to the bottom of it, whatever had to be taken apart. Well, Box Performance kinda specializes in Vettes (he owns the Boxvette, see it on Street Outlaws this month), and his shop does everything from engines to full restorations. My thanks to Box Performance.
Well, here was my opportunity for "one stop shopping" and "while I'm at it" action. I recovered some money by selling my 427 sb and putting it toward a new 440" sbc.
The loud clunk turned out to be a bad posi unit. (It was ruined, Gary said). So a new Yukon posi was installed..........and a new engine build started.
While the rear end was out, "might as well install a new aluminum diff cover". Also, why not a new VBP 420 lb. spring......also heim joint strut rods.....
And since the engine was out, why not a new Borgeson steering box........heck, the engine's out, now is good time to get a paint job....
And since the engine's being upgraded, time to upgrade the fuel line to 1/2" braided from tank to carb to handle the added horsepower.......
I'll have to update my sig engine specs, but some info:
Motown Block - (Box specs, with added beefiness)
- 4.185 bore x 4.00 stroke
Heads - Dart PRO1 245 CNC/66cc (Box CNC program, flows a
true 340 cfm intake, 255 cfm exh., 2.125 intake).
Comp ratio - 11.0:1
Cam - Box custom solid roller (made by Crower, he's kinda
secretive of his specs, but think 260'ish @ .050, and
.700 lift. This is one of his milder cams, since this is a
street car.)
Carb - ProSystems 1000 cfm.

How soon do you think you'll have it rolling again?

invest in a valve spring pressure checker. I replace my springs about every year. With. 685/.714 with m y dart 2.10/1.625 manly proflow valves
is your motown the new raise cam block?

New combo sounds like it'll be real nasty.... That outta be good for 675-700hp I'd guess? You may be able to sneak in the 9s with that power, especially as light as your car is...

Block is the Motown II, but not the raised cam version.

Snowball 2.0..........now that meant a new torque converter was now necessary, to match the new combo........

Do you know what head they used to CNC to 245? Those are wicked numbers but I suspect it would take a thcik casting as they have to be rather large ports.
Your 440 should be a beast......
