So my battery compartment has been a pain in the butt since I've bought the car. While I'm working on the car off and on, I am always disconnecting the battery and the side mounted posts make that awful.
I'd like to switch to the top post kind instead, but the corvette websites I've visited seem to only carry the original side post kind. Is there a generic brand that somebody has used to switch? I'm sure I'm not the only one that finds the battery compartment a pain when you're working on your car.
Sort of a "bubba" thing, but there are top post terminals that are extended a bit and have side post terminals at the other end. They work pretty well. As least they always did for me.
Make your own cables. Then you can use any terminal end you want.
I was having starting issues and replaced the stock 2-gauge battery cables with 0 gauge wire from West Marine. Works great and starter spins very fast. I also added a terminal block near the starter so all the accessories hooked to the starter have their own terminal block.
I'll agree with making/having new made and going heavier. About the same costs as the crap they sell at parts stores. If you're unhooking the battery regularly put a cutoff in save you some grief.
Hi T,
Have you considered a battery quick-disconnect for your side post battery?
It only takes a few seconds to disconnect or connect using one hand and reaching in through the door with the seat back folded forward.

Alan

I actually have one of those, but my existing cables are somewhat borderline already that hitting too many bumps in the road will eventually cause one of them to become too loose to start the car. When I put that disconnect in the loop it just made it worse so I had to take it off. I'm hoping to take care of two different issues at the same time, old cables and making it easier to service.
Hi T,
All 68 cars and 69 cars until serial #22081 used top post batteries.
So I'm surprised you haven't been able to find the top post cables you're looking for.
Have you looked at Lectric-Limited BC 2018?

Alan

Actually, I didn't even know there were C3 ones that weren't side post, every time I searched those didn't pop up. But now I see why people recommended 3rd party, $129, ouch.
I spent like $80 to get the thicker cable at West Marine. It is made for boats and is nice and flexible. Made 4 cables and even used the tool at West Marine to crimp the terminals.
- Positive to new terminal block ~8 feet
- Terminal block to starter ~1 foot
- Negative to frame ~2.5 feet
