Default What is this vacuum line ???

Hey All,

I think I stumbled on something that isn’t supposed to be there on my 1969.

This was Teed into yellow vacuum line running from the reservoir to the relay.

It’s right behind the distributor. I can’t see where it’s going...

Perhaps a bypass of some kind. This isn’t stock, is it ?

Hi D,
It appears to be the vacuum supply for the heater/defroster controller in the console.
It should be attached to a T in the vacuum supply for the wiper door.

Where that connection is will depend on the placement of the wiper door relay on you car and the large vacuum line running to it.
Regards,
Alan

The 'T' in the wiper door vacuum supply line.

The small hose passing through the firewall.

Hi D,
I guess the question is..... has your heater and defroster controller been operating?
Or did that hose just come loose?
Regards,
Alan

It is correct and it was connected correctly to the yellow stripe large vacuum hose as it should be....like Alans photo shows.

Just because it is put back like it was does not mean that your heater/defroster air routing will work correctly. The vacuum pods can go bad and leak vacuum like crazy.

Hopefully your air distribution works correctly for you

I cut it loose as I was replacing all the hoses for the vacuum lines. I am afraid that I am going to have to look up what a heater/defroster controller is so I can figure out if it is working or not... I have been so busy with the camshaft replacement and other critical details that I have yet to get down to the creature comforts.

That is why I excised it form the vacuum circuit for the moment.

My headlights are operating normally now, BTW. Wipers... this weekend, we shall see !
