Cutting out the plastic gas pedal
For the life of me, I can't get that pin removed from the gas pedal to replace the pedal. I saw somebody in another thread just cut their pedal out, my question is how? There's barely any space to work with down there, and the pedal is so thick that my smaller tools aren't big enough and my larger tools won't fit in the area. Thanks

Although it's for something totally different, this thread shows how the bracket attaches the floor, one of the pics near the bottom.

It has button head socket head screws in the pic but yours will have normal bolts
Cable is held into the arm using a split bushing so when you pop the plastic bushing out it'll slip off the cable and you can remove the arm / pedal assembly
The pedal is held onto a pin on the arm using a spring, I have pics at home but not here (thanks photobucket), maybe Alan will be along with pics of the back of the pedal

Ok, I can try that. I moved the spring part that was touching the metal rod off so the pedal would freely move back and forth but that didn't help much. I didn't mess with the long part though. Do you just try and move that long part all the way to the right as far as it will go? Thanks

The easiest thing is to just remove the 2 bolts and do it on the bench.
Sometimes those pins get a little rusted and need a little persuading with a hammer and punch. Trying to do that while it's in the car is going to cost more time and grief since the pivot point for the main rod is plastic and twisting on it to try and get a rusty pin out will just crack it.

better to just take it off is the right way ,, that spring is a big pain in the 4ss to get on when its in the car

Taking it off makes it easier
but
If you can unhook the spring from around the steel arm (the short side of the spring that has the hook end) it relieves the pressure and allows the pin to be removed.
Getting that spring unhooked and then re-hooked later can be a pain as there is not much room as you know

I took the spring arm off which made the spring super loose and the pin would also slide back and forth a little...but it wouldn't come out. It feels like there's something on the far end of the pin like holding it on.
If I remove those two bolts up above the pedal to allow it to swing out, is there anything else I need to do in order to get it out? It looks like there's a cable that attaches to it in that diagram above. I can't see far enough up to see it though in my car. Thanks

Pin should come out but maybe it is getting caught up on something (groove)
The cable for the throttle is held by a retaining bushing in the steel rod
Disconnect the cable from the carb and slide it all the way back into the casing, this will give a bunch of slack down at the pedal.
Pull the cable out of the pedal rod some and then you can pop the bushing out, then the slot in the side of the bushing allows it to slide off the cable and then the cable can be pulled back through and out of the steel rod

The pin might just be getting caught in the spring or pedal on the recess in the middle

Finally got my pedal cut off, bolt was rust on...broke a screwdriver before getting the pedal off and spraying it with wd40. After about an hour I was finally able to get it off, lol.

I switched to the larger pedal as I also liked the stainless trim but it did come pretty close to the carpet once the insulation and sound deadener went in so I finally went back to the smaller pedal (and added the trim )
