Default Carb intake

I bought a Edlebrock 1406 carb and matching performer intake for my 1980 C3.Has anyone done this upgrade with any noticeable difference in power or should I just keep what I got and sell it.

It is a little prettier and lighter. Won't make more power Is there an issue with your q-jet? Did you buy them used or new? If used, you won't devalue them by trying them. If new, you might want to consider leaving them in the box. Straight performer, not RPM? Cuz RPM and air gaps are not good hood clearance. Perf 2106 just fits...

What you have is not much of an "upgrade". The Edelbrock carb is just a remake of the early 1960's Carter AFB carb. Pretty basic and not very economical during normal use (poor transition capabilities).

Not sure that the intake manifold is much better than stock. It would be lighter than cast iron, though.

The EDL carb will be down about 15 hp over a correctly set up Q-Jet, so you just replaced a Q-Jet with a design that's 10 years older. GM went away from the AFB (aka "Performer") carb as it was deemed obsolete after 1966. I threw a lot of those AFBs in my trash can back in the early 70's...
