So I've bumped the compression up to 10 to 1 with a set of aluminum heads, and I've installed 1.6 rockers to up the lift just a little.
iI'going to go with bigger manifolds with the 2.5 outlets and a stainless works true dual exhaust.
Deleted the EGR
As far as the carb where should I start with resetting it in an effort to get the most HP?
Back in the day we would take those carbs and remove the plugs over the idle mixture screws so we could set up the idle mixture properly. They were stupid lean from the factory for emission purposes. We would also set the accelerator pump to the second hole to increase the pump shot. Finally raise the float level. I don't remember the exact setting we used. I would do these things at a minimum.
To remove the idle mixture plugs, we would use a die grinder to grind away enough of the plug until there was just the start of a small hole in the plug, then insert a screw. Grab the screw with a pair of vice grips and tap them with a hammer to extract the plug. The factory solution was to use a chisel to take them out by chiseling through the base of the carb. Inelegant to say the least.
Hard to set up a carb if the ignition curve isn't set up correctly. Its also relatively easy to do. And there's little you can do that will have the positive effect on power of a properly set up timing curve, certainly not in terms of bang for the buck.
Yeah, I got the timing under control.
i am pretty versed in the HEI distributor, but I am not really used to tuning a quadrajet.
This the reason I'm asking about the carb and not the distributor.
