Default AC Question

Hi Everyone,
Looking to get my AC up and running I live in Florida so I would like it to work better than they originally did.
My question is should I replace the original compressor with a new one or just have the original one rebuilt?
Would a newer version compressor make much of a difference in the original system as far as cooling?
Pat

OP, your handle seems to say you own a 67 vette, and so it would be a C2 era car.....this C3 group is from 68-82.....I don't imagine a whole lot of a/c differences, but dunno for sure....so I hesitate to give advice....

I don’t believe ‘new’ A-6 compressors are available anymore, only rebuilt units.
If yours is a good core, I would opt to have that one rebuilt vs gambling on some random rebuilt unit.

Do you know what is wrong with the system? If not, or not sure, my advice would be to find a reputable auto AC service person (not a dealership ) and tell him/her you want the system checked-out and an idea of what it would take to get it up and running. Have them give you a price ONLY for that work. Once you know what is wrong, you can get a quote for the repair work or decide that you could fix it yourself.

If you don't have the tools and/or skills for that work, just let them do it.

If the word comes back that it will be a major repair, you might consider switching the system over to a Sanden compressor and 134a refrigerant. The system is lighter, much more efficient. But if the compressor, etc is still in good condition, stay with the original system and just put R-12 in it.
