YES..I do agree that often times it may be wise to have a back-up plan so if things go wrong...the hood can be opened.
HOLY SMOKES!!
This photo clearly shows that the person working on the car did not know the car and should not had to do that.
The amount of time it will take to fix this damage to the hood...unless they were going to buy another hood anyway...would be much more than getting the hood to release.. And even if they were going to repair this hood...and the time to get he hood open was much more than fixing the hood. I would have still gone that route.
The stock hood release cable going from the inside handle to the latch on the firewall may not be actually releasing the hood on the driver side, what need do is get under the car, and with a bright flashlight, reach up under the fender to the top, and somehow pull down on that latch where the cable attaches, while a buddy wiggles and pounds his fist on the hood at once.....
IF that don't do it, you need loosen the rad support bolts maybe even pull them all out...shift the support and get lucky.....maybe a chance to loosen the hood bolts off the hinge.....
The car was a light nose hit. Copart bomb. I got it for 3300 time it was delivered from Detroit to me in philly area. But it is the poster child for how NOT to open your hood. (I have another hood now. The bumper cover was a freebie from a member on here. Once i get the salvage brand cleared I have a 71 nose, bumpers and taillight panel.

Seeing how none of this information was in the post that you showed the photo of. How can you blame anyone responding the way that they do respond.
Then the photo makes total sense. They had to do what they had to do.
And this photo IS a poster child of what a person MAY have to do IF the car gets hit in the front and the hood is pinched badly.
What "access hole" are we describing here? I should probably do this "wire loop" thing.

Search "my hood wont open" threads. Or open your hood and look at the front wall of the wipertrough right behind the hood latches. There is a roughly 3/4 inch hole with rubber plug in it for finessing the latch if cable won't do the trick.
Using this access hole will work..but not 100% of the time.
If the latch points are not close to being correct...you can run into a seriously pinching/binding effect and it will NOT come up unless parts are loosened.
