Default 1968 427 435 motor only

Can someone tell me what this is worth.
i bought it new in 1968 i am perhaps the origonal crate engine guy.It has about 30 k miles. i bought it for my 1955 nomad which is getting restored
i am trying to find out if it financially makes sense to sell it and buy a new crate motor or to have this one gone through.
thanks,
bob

Sorry not a winning lotto ticket

While a 27 is more sought after than a 54 by some the real cha ching people get on any engine is that orginal to the car thing,

If it had came in a 68 corvette and had its provenance then it might be worth a lot to the cat with that car,

Now to most its just another 27 so if you want one just rebuild it no one would pay enough for it for you to buy a new crate engine, not even close,

Hey, but if someone says im wrong, lets see them buy it for the price of a nice crate engine...

Is this a long block only, with no manifolds or sheet metal?

The tri-power manifold & carbs is worth a few thousand if it is in good condition (rebuild carbs and it works). There certainly is some value to that motor...but not a lot.

Did they, gm sell these as crate with tri powers on them?

Yeah, nice tri set ups would be worth more than most plain old big blocks, the engine part under the intake.

The easiest way to determine its value is to put it on eBay with a high reserve. Also, it is worth more if the buyer can hear it run. Being Spring, your timing is good.

Depending on the physical condition of the metal parts, you might have something worth $3000 or more.

You can check out eBay to see what that vintage of complete tri-power set is worth.

If it has a clean stamp pad with broach marks it may be worth quite a lot to someone who may stamp their VIN on it. Not ethical but it does happen.

Next level buyer may be interested in a block with a certain date code, looking for a 'correct' block, not necessarily intending to restamp.

I think one question is how mush HP do you want, also do you want to adjust Lifters. I was in a similar situation last spring (CE replacement 427/435) with my 68 Vert. I ended up boring/stroking to 460ci, Hyd. Roller, AFR Alum. Heads. 560ish crank HP on Pump Gas with the Tri-power (Air Cleaner on during Dyno pull).

My goal was 600ish hp on Pump Gas, I hit 597hp with a Dart Single Plane and 850 Holley.

You could easily get 500hp with the 427 by putting in Roller Cam, AFR Heads and some new Pistons. The 435hp Forged Rods and Crank so why not use them, I believe it'll cost less than a crate motor. If you decide to sell the Engine or part it out post it up here.

Have fun

When you make your post you will see a yellow landscape type box in the gray shaded area above. Looks like a yellow post card with some green mountains and a stamp or whatever in the top right corner. Click that and you can include a pic from anywhere on your computer.
