Default 496 coming together

just waiting for the block to get back from the shop and will start assembly. Here’s a few pics for fun. I’d like to thankMike Lewis: The AFR heads are just as I’d hoped and ordering with you was simple.. also thanks for doing your usual beautiful job balancing my rotating assy and making the process so easy, your balancing work was top notch and I’m sure it will show when it’s in the car running. Also thanks for answering all my noobie questions.
Chris Straub: cam looks beautiful as does rocker arms and lifters. Ordering process was very easy and personable, also thanks for taking all my calls and answering all my questions and helping me understand camshaft dynamics and what all those numbers really mean.

Mark Jones: mark even though I didn’t order parts you still took my calls and answered my questions so thank you, I’d still be .030 over instead of .060 if it wasn’t for your input.

Everyone knows these guys are damn good at their job and to you guys this was just one more out of the million engine builds you’ve been in some way involved but for me it is my first and it’s with my dad so it means something so thanks guys. I feel I got the best bang for my buck and had years of experience in my corner. Good guys on these threads and don’t get me wrong there are lots mire but these are the ones I’ve dealt with.

Now for some pics.

It's always nice to see a build with valves that are so big that they almost touch in the chamber

The heads look good, 265 or 290? Just like mine except for the spring color. Are you doing a solid roller? Looks like you went with solid roller springs with a 220 seat pressure.

I am going 467 (60 over 454). Got a Straub hydraulic roller for mine as I did not want to lash valves. With the parts you have, you should make some good power. From the picture, looks like you have Wiseco pro tru pistons. I used most of the same parts you have. What rods did you get? I see they are H beam. I am using Scat I beams for my setup.

The lifters in the picture are h rollers and those are small diameter springs more like the 145 pounds on the seats

Looking forward to following your build. Love the rods. Can’t even see the seam in the big end.

yes my crank, rods, are forged scat and Wiseco +20cc dome forged all balanced by Mike Lewis. I’m pretty excited. Well that’s pretty cool it looks like we have really close set-ups. What are the specs on your cam if you don’t mind?

no the lifters are just just full time oiling solids. I thought the same thing when I first saw them.

I was wondering the same thing, the lifter box says adjusting Morel HYD lifters. That made me assume HYD lifters not solid.

Gkull, here are the 2 springs that AFR specs for those heads. Mine are the h roller springs with the green strip.

If you notice his has the orange strip, which would be the solid roller springs.

What intake are you going to run? Vic Jr?

Looks like you have a pretty stout combo in the works. Are you going to dyno it? Should make 700+ no problem...

Solid Roller 496 youre going to love it!! Nothing runs or sounds like a solid...youll never go back to a smaller motor/sbc. Once you experience that torque youre ruined for life!! Havent had a big block in years but havent forgotten how fun they are.
Part throttle pull, even rips with a tall gear its too much fun. No sbc will take the place of that. Had a 69 SS Chevelle with too big a cam, would still pull a tall gear real well no need for OD.
