The Mobil1 15W50 worked! I bought it at Walmart even. Thanks for the pointer. I now have a solid 25 psi at idle. What a relief!
I use mobil1 15w50 racing oil. It has High zddp and zinc and You can get it in 5 gallon jugs at walmart for $23. Cant beat the price. I had a chevy performance high volume reg pressure pump when I rebuilt my motor and just put in a Melling high pressure regular volume pump. MY pressure with with the high volume pump was no higher than 35 cold or hot but would drop at idle when the motor was hot. Im ordering a high pressure spring for my high volume pump if I think I need it in the future

FYI, Mobil 1 puts some really deep discount coupons on their website every few months. Doesn't hurt to check every so often or get on their mailing list.

I run 10w-40 in my ZZ4 and on a hot summer day with the engine warm I get 20psi hot on my console gauge at idle. I've checked it with an old oil pressure gauge I have in the tool box and it shows about the same pressure as my console gauge hot and cold.

An old oil pressure gauge in a tool box and a C3 cluster oil gauge. Can't get more 'authentic' than that! And both show that you actually have pressure.
