Fuel Pump Problems
I was trying to replace the fuel line (the metal pipe from the fuel pump to the carburator) on my 75. The previous owner had cobbled a different line to mate with a Holley double pumper. After 18 years of ownership I am now reinstalling a Lars massaged original Q-jet. This required that I install an original fuel pipe as well.
Once I disconnected the pipe from the pump, I now had to replace the adapter brass fitting that was screwed into the pump outlet since the one in the car was straight and the AIM sheets showed a 90 degree fitting and the original pipe definately required a different fitting in the pump. I obtained a new fitting from Zip.
I had a very difficult time breaking the old fitting loose from the pump. It mates to the pump with a pipe thread. Now when I screwed the new 90 degree fitting into the pump and connected the new fuel line, the connection leaks where the brass fitting mates to the pump (at the pipe thread.) I even tried teflon tape and the leak continues. I suspect that I may have caused a crack inside the pump at the pipe thread connection of the elbow and pump.
Since the pump is now discontinued, I am having a devil of a time locating a new one. Any thoughts on what is causing my leak and where can I obtain a replacement pump?

I picked up a replacement pump form AuroZone just this summer for my 73. It is not the NOM but is correct in appearance and fittings. Cost about $20 and has worked fine even at the strip with my hopped up LM-1 engine. Don't have the part number but I believe they used the 73 350 to look it up.

Jim, any A/C Delco jobber should be able to get you a pump. Maybe the "original" pump was discontinued, but A/C Delco has a line of pumps that supercedes all or most of the old ones. Have bought all A/C Delco pumps for my '75, '80 & '68. Dr. Rebuild has the '70-'76 sb pump for $33.95, part #3901418. According to Dr.Rebuild's catalogs pics, the original carb fuel line is where the 90* bend is made, then straight INTO the pump. Maybe I can check my '75 later and see what is on it.

I talked to the good Doctor's saleslady. The pump for my 75 is now $95. Seems that when GM discontinued the original pump, it was time to triple the price of the stock on hand.
BTW she said the listings and pricing info on their websight are two or three years old, so don't go by them for prices or availability. So much for the world wide web keeping things up to date.
Zip no longer had the pump. I did find the pump at Paragon for $50. I should have it Monday.

Just a word of caution: when I replaced my pump I had a clear filter between it and my carb which picked up what looked like some excess material from the pump diaphrams. You might want to flush the pump first, if that possible, or check your filter after running it for a little while.

Jim, just checked my '75 and IT DOES have that 90* brass elbow, except it is'nt used to bring the line up, the exit of this brass points toward like the left front of the car. The exit(opening) of this fitting parallels the ground, then the line comes straight into it, again parallel to the ground.

Jim, I picked up a new AC Delco pump that is a virtual twin of my 69 fuel pump to put on my ZZ4, I got it from an A/C Delco distributor for less than $30.00.
As I said it is a virtual duplicate. Check the A/C Delco Website and find the correct part number and then go to your local A/C Delco retailer or distributor. Getting mine was a simple as the parts guy getting one off the shelf.
