Default Not getting charged battery.?

1977 350 w/auto. Pulled starter today after finding a loose solenoid.
Installed brand new solenoid. Have small wire for the IGN switch and two heavy wires for the solenoid large post. Started right up, several times. But I question if the battery is charging.
Dash gauge shows 13 + V.
Battery shows 12.4 V engine off.
Battery shows 13.4 V engine running.
ALT shows 13.4 engine running.
Question:
How does voltage get from the ALT to the BATT?
One of the three wires on the back of the ALT?
Indirect route to the solenoid, then to the BATT?

Large wire back of alternator goes to horn relay, same terminal another wire goes to 'T' junction then starter solenoid. Charging rate should be 13.6 to 14.2 VDC. T

Yeah your charging voltage and battery voltage seem to be low. Try a battery tester which will load test the battery - with engine off of course. Then you can measure batt voltage with engine off and with it running. Engine running gives you alternater charge voltage.

I use cheap harbor freight batt tester but I see their over $20 now. Small enough to keep one in each car and makes testing electrical charging system fast - something you can do on the road anywhere.

Seeing that your battery is at 12.4 volts..and when the engine is running it is charging at 13.4 volts.

I would not worry to much because it is charging...and your battery is darn near at 'full' of the charge it can take.

The 0.2 volts is so insignificant ..that it is not enough to worry about.

On a 1977..it is not wired like you describe. the wiring changed.

There is NO horn relay like on a 1968. The horn relay is inside the car and does not have wire from the alternator gong to it.
