I am going to replace/upgrade the motor mounts on my 1975 L48/4 speed. I am hoping it should be a fairly easy swap? I am planning on lifting the front of the car and putting it on jackstands at the lower shock mount, then using a board on my shopjack to lift the motor at the oil sump. Again, just in the planning phase and have never done this previously. Are there any major considerations I may be overlooking? I don’t know if I will have to undo the trans mount at the crossmember or anything similar that should be checked off when doing this. I appreciate the forum’s input!
Yes, you can do it. But, don't use the bottom of the oil pan to try taking the weight of the engine! It would be best to lift on the pan support edges (and bolt heads) using the edge of a 2x4. Just make sure that whatever you have between the jack and the lift point is very stable and cannot slip/flop/bend once you jack it up. I think it is easiest to do one side at a time.
Sure can. I used to work in a Chevy garage and replaced a LOT of em. One caution is to disconnect the batt, you will be working close to the starter terminals.
From: Who says "Nothing is impossible" ? I've been doing nothing for years.
Any safe way to lift the engine up a couple of inches will work I have a steel beam across my garage with a hoist. But any type of cherry picker will work as well as jacking the engine up in a safe place.
The important thing to remember is to put the the engine and motor mounts bolt in loose. Put he engine back on the motor mounts and get the long bolt though, then tighten all the loose bots to the engine and motor mounts.
