HEH!! I need to replace the headlight switch and before had to remove the visors surround pillers, right side lower dash pad, and top dash pad. Can the driver's lower pad be removed with the top pad in place?? I tried last time and almost broke the guage lens.
1). You insert your ignition key into the ignition lock cylinder. It is a purely mechanical device and connects by means of a rod to the ignition switch which is down under the dash. When you rotate the lock cylinder, you turn a small plastic sector gear that engages a small die cast rack. The rack pushes and pulls on the switch. You will be replacing the lock cylinder. My Paper #1 describes the procedure.
I opened the Tilt & Telescoping Column 69-82 Installation Pics just yesterday. It should be the same format as the Blowup Pic.
Daddy-O will do. I do however need to replace all the vacuum line from the intake to the console and to the A/C system so it may be necessary for me to remove the entire dash. FAUXRS has a 78 and he said the driver's lower pad may be removed with everything else in place. I'll try this Saturday just to see if it's true and report my findings.
Hi Jim,
Then something is futzed up inside my column as I can't get the ignition switch to go to accessory positrion. I need to replace the lock cyloinders anyway since the one in the T&T column probably won't have a key and it definitely won't match the door lock cylinders.
