As far as I can see, then i is SS, so did you paint yours?

I had them ceramic coated inside and out (that is not paint) locally over the Stainless Steel metal for heat retention in the pipes versus the engine compartment. 2 driving seasons now and they look exactly like the photo.............

Jb, how low do those hang, relative to the sump or bellhousing? I need some bigger headers to fit with the afr 227s I have waiting on the shelf...

These are on AFR 180's and they hang about 1 inch below the oil pan. I have not scrapped them yet and my car is lowered in the front much versus the stock GM ride height.

Hi jb,

I thought ceramic coating was a powder paint?
Also I've always wondered how it is possible to "paint" inside a pipe, like on a set of headers?

Also what is the cost for this?

This is paint versus the ceramic coating:

It is a powder coating, not paint. Don't be fooled by the picture. The coating on my headers has a sandpaper finish, not smooth at all. The coating was sprayed inside the primary tubes with a special fitting and then baked on. I paid $200 for the header set.

Thanks, great info. I just went looking for this thread as I missed the reply at the time. Sounds similar to my current headers - that did hang down ~0.5" below my 0.5" deeper than standard sump. They have now ground down to about the height of the sump, and I've been grounding the sump... I've bought a shallower Canton road race sump to hopefully avoid that happening any more. My car is low, and my local roads are rather rough.

It's costing me $350 to ceramic coat a set of SB Side Pipe headers.

Lot more surface area on a pair of side pipes. Mine were pretty spendy too as I recall.

Arguably twice the area. Was worried about the 4" side pipe fit after coating, but The Man said it's "paper thin" and not to worry.

Yeah, it takes more $$ to live around here, but I know of places that'r worse.

Thinking about the header stud thing for my aluminum cylinder heads too.

the fit will be fine. What I found out is that the side tube scrubs off the coating where it laps over the collector. Eventually end up putting high temp paint on that section.

im using the stage 8 header bolt system, some modification to the locks with anti seize on the bolts. No problems so far in 8 years.
