Hello All,
I installed a shiftworks detent plate for the new overdrive transmission. I removed the neutral safety switch from the shifter and then reinstalled. Anybody know how to adjust it? I never thought about scribbing some line on it before removal.
The Neutral and Park positions on the shifter should not change just because you swapped transmissions. The lowest range position (L or 1) must be added to the shift plate (you can see the difference if you compare the new plate to the old one). The NSS should just bolt up to the new plate and work fine.
If you wish to test it, you just need an ohmmeter to connect to the wires coming from the NSS (before you connect to the car's wiring). As you shift through the various ranges, the ohmetter should show "infinite" resistance in all ranges except Neutral and Park. In Neutral and Park ranges, it should read "0" ohms (or very close to it). If it needs to be adjusted, just loosen the attachment screws and shift it slightly so that it works as intended. Once installed and car is operational, put shifter in each range and attempt to start the engine. It should only start in Neutral and Park positions.
