I looking to send out Rochester to get rebuilt. Any suggestions on where to send it? Want to make sure it's done the correct way
After 15 years on ethanol, I sent my q-jet to Lars for its second rebuild (he rebuilt it in 2003).
He got it in ship shape for less than half the going rate for a rebuild and that included all shipping and repairs. Can't beat that price especially with tune and set-up on his test engine included.
Be sure to include specs on your engine config for baseline considerations.
If you send to Lars, be sure to use the #7 USPS Priority Mail box (or equivalent). I think it measures 12x12x8" (8" tall) and you will need to drain and wrap the carb with copious amounts of bubble wrap with box stuffing to keep it snug.

Ted - Have you run the carb again yet? Hope we got it all straightened out for you!

Yeah, as Ted had the unfortunate experience of finding out, if you don't follow the shipping instructions that I provide to you, and your failure to follow instructions results in damage to your carb, I will chew your butt and ridicule you mercilessly...
Thanks for everyone's kind comments - it's fun to build nice products for people who appreciate and enjoy the results!

This guy has no idea what he is doing.................................sp ending all day on Corvette Forum
To the OP..........E-mail Lars and ask for his timing and carb papers.......great reads. Even if you send out your carb to him.....still read the literature.....it is priceless.
Lars rebuilt mine and when I dyno'd my L79, the machine shop was very surprised how well it performed. No adjustment was need and It produced 383 HP/428 FT.TQ. Lars was very informative, performed excellent work and turn around was unexpected. Thank you Lars.

Peter's carb was actually a good example of the "normal" condition that these carbs are in when I receive them. Here is the "short list" on the problems that his carb had when I received it from him:
Fuel leak at inlet fitting - faulty inlet fitting gasket
Lean primary jets
Lean secondary rods
Incorrect primary rods installed - rich at cruise
Low APT (power piston height) - set very lean
APT adjustment tang machined off flat with throttle plate by previous rebuilder
Cold fast idle screw fully backed out - no fast idle - 560 rpm
Hot idle set very low
Cold fast idle mixture set at 20:1
Hot idle mixture set at 12.5:1
Throttle plates not aligned in throttle bores, jamming the throttle
Secondary linkage adjusted to prevent secondaries from opening more than 50%
Power piston rod hanger arms bent
With a few replacement parts and a good setup, it sounds like the carb turned out pretty good - good to hear that I got lucky again...! I hate it when you guys check my work on the dyno....

Jebby - you promised me you wouldn't tell anyone that I just copy/paste stuff I find on the Internet to make it sound like I know what I'm doing... Yeah, so I have to spend all my time on the 'net to find plausible quotes to re-post... Thanks for really blowing my cover, man...
