Which one are the best for stock frame pockets. I have global west upper and lower control arms. I was thinking QA1 but I here the shock gives a poor ride. Not saying what I heard is accurate, this is why I’m asking.
thanks

I also have Global West. I bought their whole set up Arms plus coils and Viking Dbl. adjustable shocks. If you call Global West they'll help you out.
Sorry the GD CF photo upload is not working again.

Do you like your quality of ride compared to what you had before

What I had before was original and completely shot.
I'm presently rebuilding my 70' Coupe with a SB. The coil spring Doug of GW recommended was I believe a 400 Lb medium ride not soft I think the length is a 9" & 1 1/8" sway bar ). No road time yet. But it's not that big a deal to swap out for a softer/firmer ride if need be.
The coil spring really depends on what type of driving and Big block or Small Block and front sway bar along with how you have the rear suspension set up.
Doug at GW is very knowledgeable and I really feel he set me up right. He'll set you up straight I think too.
We all know how and where the front shock upper mount is, With the OEM coil spring set-up the load is dispersed where the spring contacts the frame. To my knowledge the coil over suspension uses the same upper mount as the OEM shock, hence the load is now being dispersed in a much smaller area that was designed for just a dampening load, stressing 40 to 50 year old steel. Just a thought. T

No, the kits still use the frame spring pocket. Its the lower part of the shock that holds the spring and the shock connects to the lower A Arm.

I can only vouch for QA-1 dual adjust shocks. They have 18 clicks of compression settings and 18 of rebound. QA-1 choices of coil over springs are bad. speed direct used to sell springs in 50# increments for qa-1 shocks.
So with that many choices I'm not sure how you could end up with a poor ride?
I contacted Global West and they were quite helpful, They are going to set me up with another manufacture of coil overs with the special spring for what I need. I am also contacting ride tech, just want to do the job right and not twice.

That special spring is probably not what you want. I don't know what spring you have now, but let's say that it is a 460# and you have driven around with it for a period of time. so you can make the best educated guess as to whether you need more spring or less spring.

I think he means a conical style spring. Its height is about 9" inches, not standard which won't work.9HTSP4503.80" I.D. Tapered High Travel Spring - 9" length4503.82.5DPigtail9**$79.95https://www.qa1.net/suspension/springs/front-pro-coil-shock-system-springs

Reason: spelling

Yes, I have a set of the QA-1 conical under the work bench. they are the highest spring rate like for what they called a BBC c3. They are some kind of dual rate. I don't remember the exact rate, but lets just call them 360/460#. Speed direct sells the wider shock collar ring adapter so you don't have to use the phony conicals. I'd sell you my conicals for 20 bucks plus shipping. I told them that I had 550# for 20 years and I wanted 550 or greater.
I see that now years later QA-1 is offering a large selection at $79.95 bluecoil springs used to be $80 a pair
