While most here prefer a 383, that in on way implies a 355 is the wrong choice. Its not wrong, its different. A 355 may fit into someone's budget or driving style.

Oh I am probably the "noisy" one..that is one heck of a condescending comment to make about anyone's opinion or advice. And yes, I have given my opinion and advice on my experience with my 355 but if you go back and read what I wrote, I actually make pro comments about going with a 383 based on certain parameters, my personal experience with my 355 and thoughts about what the OP's target Gross HP target was and how to get to it most economically. There is no right answer/choice by any of us. The only correct choice is the one the OP makes for himself, some of which is based on all of our collective opinions and comments.

Do me a favor, don't try and silence opinions that may not align with your thoughts...Look at the mess that tactic has put this beloved country of ours in................

Either way, OP totally up to you obviously! In the end the equation is simple, how big is your pocket book?
no I didn’t think it was directed at me. I’m just throwing my hat in supporting a 355 vs a 383 and that I have no regrets about keeping mine a 350. I like reving to 6300 rpm making that 350 scream and work for it’s power.

OP if you want to keep it a 350 is 350+ hp/close to 400 lbs tq enough?
Keep your cast bottom end, get a half decent (tfs 175 or afr 180) a "270" type HFT cam, dual plane, 650 or Qjet, HEI headers it will be a strong torquey st engine that sounds good but DD manners. And not a bunch of $

Momentarily reviving this old thread. HeadsU.P., I've looked in your profile pics but didn't see any pictures that I was looking for regarding the Promaxx heads. I went ahead and picked up a pair shortly after this original conversation. I finally got around to bolting them up and I'm a little worried by what I'm seeing on the heads and figured I'd ask if you remember or have any pics of your heads.

On the end of each head, between the last head bolt hole and the hole where the oil returns to the lifter valley, there is a fairly obvious line in the heads. It's on both sides of both ends. I can't tell if its a crack or a casting line. It seems weird that it would be on both sides of both heads, if it was a problem. But it's a pretty obvious line. Do you remember seeing anything like that on your heads, or do you happen to have any pics that would capture that area of the top of the heads? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
