I need to fit an extra mirror to the passenger side of my '68, it's tricky driving in the UK without one!
I have found the kit on Corvette America's site, other than the mirror and mounting kit, is there anything else needed parts-wise to fit a mirror to a door that has not had one fitted before?
Thanks http://www.corvetteamerica.com/catal...utside-mirrors

You will need to mount the mounting plate on the door. If you look on the forum for mounting mirrors you need to drill the door and then from inside fasten the mirror to a plate? plate can be made. Screws and nuts can be bought seperately or maybe there are kits/. Google mounting kit for same

I mounted mine using the supplied well nuts and its been on there for over a year and been bumped numerous times by me and car show attendees and it hasnt moved or cracked the fiberglass. Just measure 15 times before drilling. I have and early 68 and the mirrors arent in the same position as other years so you'll have to find similar milestones on each door to get it in the same position.
Thanks folks, I found the following youtube video which is exactly what I needed to see. I can make up a template from my existing driver door mirror and transfer it to the passenger door. I'm going to replace the driver side mirror too so I've got a matching pair.

Ditto same as Rogers here. I just used the supplied rubber well nuts also which worked just fine. I agree a backing plate would be better, but I want to remember I could not figure out how to install a backing plate as the space behind the fiberglass was enclosed on my 68. Early vrs late 68 door mirrors moved back a couple of inches as Rogers says. I would suggest you get another person to hold the mirror while you sit in the driver seat and check visibility. I installed my RH mirror on my early 68 an inch or so further back than the LH mirror which was not noticeable and which gave me a lot better visibility. Hope this helps and having a RH door mirror was a big safety plus for me although I hated to drill holes in my RH door.

Yup, pretty daunting to take a drill to a perfectly good 50 year old door. It's very tricky parking in the garage without a mirror, I'll end up doing more damage without one.

Good point, need to consider the alternatives to having no RH mirror! Changing lanes safely on the Interstate here at 70mph was the motivator for me
