The more I read about this the more it seems the later knock sensors should work since they sell wiring connector adapters for the 82 corvette to adapt it to the 1984 style sensor plug...

I believe you are correct. There's little difference between the '82 and '84 engines, which should mean that the knock frequency should be the same, and both requiring sensors of the same frequency.

I know that some people put 84’ computers in 82’s....but the “computer” is a dummy....it’s all in the PROM and I am not sure if it is compatible....this thread suggests it is not....

I went to CC ordered the '82 knock sensor, installed it in 15 minutes. End of story.

OK, just to be clear here on the 82 knock sensor. It is NOT the same as the 84, physically or internally. So, it may or may not work using the later model sensor. With what we found on the 82 which was surprising, there may very well be a frequency difference between the two sensors. Not saying that the 84 won't work or that there is not maybe a sensitivity issue between them, but they ARE different internally on how they operate. We just had this issue show up on an 82 while developing the stock tune for an 82 in NJ. Found a sensor for $169 which is still high, but worked just fine when replaced. I hope this helps maybe a little bit.

it would be MORE help if you posted where and who you got the sensor from. this whole efi setup is getting hard to keep running since it was never common enough for oe parts to be laying around or aftermarket to develop replacements. even you have a hard time finding ecu's. a more modern efi swap may be in order for most who are not purists but just want a good running car. the swap will be easier on the 82 than on any previously carbed car.

There is no problem finding a replacement ECM if you don't mind going to a newer style ECM from Dynamic EFI. It makes your 82 or 84 corvette 100% laptop tuneable and I will even give anybody that installs one of those ECMs a stock 82 corvette tune so they can drive the car with no issues. It is also a good tune for the 84. You can always make changes to the tune if you want to improve it even more. The solution I offer is the best that it gets and retain the CFI system. There are other options if someone wants to go down that road as well.

As far as posting where the sensor was purchased, I would have to ask the shop in NJ where he got it, but I can find out and post it. Waiting for a reply to my email from the shop.

OK, the reply I got from the shop that replaced the knock sensor was that they got it from Lectric Limited, but I believe they are now sold out? Sorry.

Hello everyone. So, the unthinkable happened on the weekend. As I was installing new Patriot Tight Tuck headers on my wife's 82, I realized I needed to move the knock sensor. In an attempt to do that, I snapped the body off the mount, leaving me with a nice stud on the side of the block.
Now my main issue is that I cannot find a knock sensor specific to the 82. I have looked at all the places mentioned in this thread. Everyone says out of stock. I'm hoping that is just a result of the pandemic, but what if it isn't? Does anyone know of a replacement that will work with a basically stock 82 Corvette? The only modifications thus far are the removal of the air pump and stock exhaust manifolds. The weather in Canada is finally getting nice and I don't want her car sitting for months waiting for a sensor. Any advise?

Unfortunately they are NOT available anywhere and no one is re-popping them that I'm aware of. The 82 is a rather unique sensor and is internally different than even the 84, let alone the harness. I had a good conversation with the guys at Lectric Limited on this subject and they said the same thing. They also said that they tried using the 84 style KS and was not doable. I'm not 100% sold on that yet, but I have a ton of other things to do before I start messing with that again. It may be possible, just not sure yet. I did see that Summit showed out of stock, but ships tomorrow...What?! I called them and they said, no it doesn't ship tomorrow and they are no longer available. Ugh!

So, if you could find the manufacturer of those and convince them to start making them again...BONUS! I'm sure their answer would be no since their isn't a big market for them, but they are needed, just like 82 ECMs.
