Default upper control arm nuts

Putting the front suspension back together. What I took off for fasteners seems to be mismatched/incorrect. I have two nuts one one side that are lock nuts and the other two on the other side were flanged type nuts with a locking serrated type of head. From searching it appears that the lock nuts are the correct type to use. I searched several hardware stores and they only carry the plain lock nuts in grade 5. I am looking for grade 8 but they only have the nylon type lock nuts in that grade. Is the grade 5 strong enough? Did the car have grade 8 from the factory? All of the searches that I have done for them online do not specify if they are grade 8.

They need to be what is called "grade C locknuts" they work like nylocks but the are solid metal that have been pinched on the ends to squeeze the threads and can installed about a dozen times before they wear out

Seeing how none of us can see what you are talking about. How about posting photos of what it is you ahve and have them separated enough so we can tell you what is going on. IF you do take a photo and post it..please make sure it is a good photo with good lighting adn the photo is in focus.

YES...there ARE Grade 8 bolts in the front suspension...but NOT ALL of the bolts need to be Grade 8....which is why a photo would help us help you greatly.

That's the type of nut to use.

If the hardware store has those and says they are grade 5 then they'd work fine. However, ask where the hardware comes from. If they don't know or can't name a large trustworthy North American supplier then I'd be a little concerned about them really being grade 5.
