Default Temp sensor Location

I will be installing an aluminum radiator and electric fans in the next week or two. I am looking for a location for the new temp sensor. I have seen people use the opening in the intake manifold next to the water neck. But my aftermarket water neck dosen't allow enough space to install one there. 75' L48 with edelbrock performer intake. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

On mine I installed a PWM fan controller that came with a sensor that just sticks through the radiator fins down near the lower radiator hose . It was a thin probe that easily fit through the fins.
Every fan controller is different, so maybe contact the vender for their advice.

Not sure which radiator you have but my DeWitts has a fitting just under the upper hose. Not optimun but functional. Do you have an older manifold? Most of the new ones have provisions on both the driver and passenger sides.

Also depending on the year of the car you may be able to install it in the other cylinder head.

I have my fan temp sensor in the passenger side head. The fans will come on earlier with the sensor in the head because the head temp is higher than the temp at the top of the intake manifold.

I checked my temps after a 50 mile ride in 90 degree weather with the engine running. My temp sensor for the stock gauge is in the driver side head. The stock gauge said 210, infrared gun said 208 at the sensor in the head. At the thermostat the temp read 165, I have a 160 thermostat.

I have a 190 on 170 off sensor for my fans. If I had the sensor in the top of the manifold or radiator, the engine temp would have to get much higher to turn the fans on. I have 11.8 to 1 compression, so I need to keep the temps down to avoid detonation, so for me this is by far the best way to set it up.
