I can't easily get back in to the cylinders but, here are a few shots of the one with the straw still in it. And sorry all of the photos are enormous. There must be a way to control that but, I've not figured out how.

OK, it looks like the "straw" is down the cylinder about half way. Does the engine turn over at all? At this point, I'd pull all the plugs, and by hand, rotate the engine to bring that piston up, then go after the straw with the vacuum method,

Default Straw in cylinder

I had the same thing happen to me! Had my son hold a mirror and flashlight to look into the spark plug hole, while I manually rotated the engine. The straw came into view, and I grabbed it with a pair of hemostats. Glad you got yours out!!

The first five exhaust manifold bolts will come off in a few minutes. The sixth bolt takes a few hours. (murphys law)

With the new "lazy photo loading" feature, I now find myself skimming past the pictures that are still all pixelated, therefore I missed the picture with the straw in hand....

Great job, one not in the GM manual! Now before pouring a gallon of gas in the carb and hitting the starter: drain and fill with new oil and change filter. With the plugs out, use the starter to spin the engine. This will pump new clean oil throughout the engine before it actually starts and begins heating the internal components. Spin it several times each time for a little longer, listening all the time for any unusual sounds. If you have the valve covers off you can see the oil coming up the push rods oiling the valves. The spinning will also allow you to check for spark. You can also check the operation of the fuel pump and verify the carb has fuel- and there are NO leaks. If everything looks good, install the spark plugs ,and GOOD LUCK.

Actually, what happened is this....I usually go to "my recent posts" when I first log on to the CF. I then go directly to the last page of posts, then scan backward, to where I left off, on my previous visit. That usually works pretty well, but on this particular discussion, it didn't. I came to the pictures of the straw in the cylinder that the OP had posted, and assumed (bad decision) that the situation hadn't been resolved, when in reality, he had previously mentioned that he had gotten the straw out.....
