I saw this in the AIM. Putting together the LH dash after many years and was wondering was this on every car or was it an option? Not sure mine ever had it or maybe it did and was removed by a previous owner?
This is a non alarm equipped car.
any help appreciated, thank you
Mark
You found that in the AIM under U15 in the options section in the rear of the manual. That means it was an extra-cost option. So no, not all 69’s had it. And it is not at all related to having an alarm in your car. This is part of the speedo, you set the needle for your chosen max speed, and when you exceed that speed, a buzzer sounds.
I had one in a '68 many years ago. It was a nuisance, so I just cranked it to much higher speed so that it wouldn't buzz. Adding cruise control to your car would be a much better 'asset'.
Like wiper doors, fiber optics and ither cool weird 68 69 and chromie stuff i like this option so much im gonna add it to my 69, in some form, since im not some dbag speeding all over and endangering others.
Set it at some fun speed like 88, if i drift it will tell me.
Not that it was an ootion, i am also adding low fuel warning to my 69,
I like the fun stuff thats way 1969 was a must year.
Boy... speed warning.. from a repair standpoint.. what a PITA... They are so different with so many different gears to re-construct that I'd have to say... steer clear of this option. There is a bunch of info on my tech site for those wanting to add this to their car but the head and the gears involved in making the warning needle move are quite hard to repair if there is a failure.
Thanks for the heads up
As you well know for example
Some people call the wiper door a cantankerous pos and install long hoods, but like i said i like the wiper door,
And i have no fears that when i get to that point if i install the speed warning speedo it will work just fine for me.
In other hobbies im drawn to this type thing, restoring stuff like metal typers, old carnival digger cranes even some pre computer pinballs
IF i do it it would be way down the road but this thread made me curious and i looked on ebay and see a couple places selling "new" 68 - 69 speed warning speedos if course they have limited info,
Whats the story on these? Craptastic import part, purist nightmare that does work?

They are imported, and they are only correct for 1969 cars with the clip on cable. People can use them in the 1968 cars but they'd have to change the speedo cable to one from a 1969 to make it work. I will say that I've seen and sold this product (289.00) and not had any issues with it so far aside from the cable issue. Although imported, it's a pretty decent part. I do have NOS GM 1968 speedo, but they are not cheap...

Yeah.. we carry it.. and if we are out it direct ships.. There are issues with the repro small gauges, but the speedo's I've have had good luck. Why they didn't put an external resistor on the small gauges so that they'd be the same as the original gauges... I have no idea... The imported small gauges won't work with our adjustable resistors because the resistance is built inside the gauge.
