I'm in the midst of installing factory style side pipes on my 76. I got the fiberglass covers and "quiet" pipe kit from Central Corvette and while I am pleased with the quality of the parts, I'm struggling with the fit of the covers. I've got the pipes tucked up as far as they will go and they are within 3/8 of inch from the rocker, but they hang about 2 inches below the covers.
Has anyone out there run into the same issue? Is this common? are their other pipes that would be not as wide and thus not hang so low? I couldn't swing the additional 2 grand for the steel covers and thought these would be a good alternative. It looks very obvious while on my lift, on the ground it's much less noticeable. If this is the best that I can get, then I'll probably paint the mufflers VHT flat black.

that looks good. you have to look hard to see it once its on the ground. If it is still a concern get some flat black manifold paint and paint them. The hard part is getting a good fit at the tail pipe which you look to have sorted out
I agree with the above comments. I'm old enough to remember when those side pipes were "current", and to the best of my recollection, the C-3 sidepipes hung that low, even from the factory. The C-2 pipes, being smaller in profile, always were "tucked up" better....
Blue1972... well, I wouldn’t call them quiet. When I spoke to the tech team at Corvette Central, they said that the noise level was in between the “stock” muffler and the loud pipes, so I went with that. I like the deep tone and they do have a “crack” when its throttled. I haven’t driven it yet since I installed them, so Indonr know yet if they’ll drone, I’m hoping not. Bottom line if you’re looking for “your fathers Oldsmobile” noise level, these aren’t ones to go with

My 67 has factory off road side pipes, basically (glass pack) straight through exhaust - you can't hold a conversation unless you are over 70 mph. Do not drive in the fast lane with a concrete barrier or in stop and go traffic. On long trips it gets old fast. Not looking for stock under car quiet, but less noise than I have now.
