This ...,

Off of this. It sprayed on its own from the shelf when something bumped it.

I would first try 3M general purpose adhesive cleaner #08984:

Good luck!

I would try mineral spirits, if the bug and tar remover doesn't work, but as said above, try in an inconspicuous place first.

Which ever product you use, is just going to smear most of it around at first. I think I would take some one inch masking tape and form a ball in your hand. Dab the tape onto the worst of it, lifting the goop as you go. Then cleanse with something.

Thanks for all the ideas.

Hopefully the clear is thick.

And I have the most inconspicuous place you could hope for....

A fiberglass bezel painted with the car that I replaced with a metal one.

Here goes nothing

And the winner of tonight's contest is

Sstocker31

There may have been other correct answers but I had wd-40 on hand.

Bit of a tense moment when wiping off the first glob - it looked liked it had created a fish eye in the paint, but a little more rubbing it came out fine.

And no sticky smear at any time.

Cool, glad to loose that race. How about a full view of the hood? Looks interesting.

Glad to hear the WD-40 worked !!! I use it for "cutting" a lot of oily / greasy messes - then remove the WD-40 residue with either Simple Green or a citrus cleaner.

Grzldvt1 - THANK YOU for your input !!! I'm going to give the Ceramic Coatings a shot this spring - I'll be trying it on a DD first - then if successful - will be applying to a couple of Vettes. Just one quick question - can you suggest a source for the Kamikaze coating you mentioned earlier. I had been thinking about trying Blackfire Pro Ceramic Coating - but if Kamikaze is a little more forgiving and has excellent gloss - that is probably a worthwhile coating to try for a beginner with a little bit of detailing experience.......
