They flip forward when pushed. But rumor has it there's an inertial locking mechanism that keeps them from pitching forward in an accident...I don't want to test this, however :D

Thanks for the quick response. I just picked up these seats and am planning on putting them in my 71 this weekend. I did not want to put in defective seats. The 71 has a lock button on the rear of the seat. I assumed the newer seats had something similar.
