So, my Corvette is leaking oil fairly badly. I've got dye on order and intend to try to clean up and try the talc trick I've read about here. In the meantime, I thought I would check the torque on the pan and any other bolts I can find.
According to the torque specs I found here, the smaller bolts should be 80ftlbs and the larger 165. My torque wrench only goes up to 75 so, I'll have to go get a higher rated one but, tried hand tightening a few. They were awfully loose. My question is if the bolts were that loose, should the gasket be replaced as well or is proper torque enough?
I think you need to read that torque spec again 80 ft lbs and 165ftlbs ???? on little oil pan bolts?? that should be INCH lbs.. you will twist them all off .. also you need to start in the middle and work alternating sides to each end

Huh. I am using synthetic oil. I'll give that a shot.
that's not going to work any better than tightening 165 ft lbs on the bolts .. synthetic oil does not cause leaks.. all gaskets made since mid 60s are compatible with synthetics
Would like to point out a couple things about synthetic oil and oil seals/ gaskets.
1. Synthetic does not cause oil leaks when you change over from mineral base oil. What it does is clean/dissolve the carbon build up that the old seal/gasket was sales on. Carbon ring it is called by some.
2. If you go synthetic, and change back to mineral base after the seals start leaking, it probably will continue to leak because the carbon seal is no longer there.
As usual, YMMV
