Hi Chuck,
I just made a spring compressor and want to be sure I have it all.
Materials:
1- 1/2-13x3' All thread with a nut welded on 1 end.
1- 6x6x1/2 toll steel plate with a 5/8" hole in the center
2- 1/2-13 nuts for the bottom and on top ofthe shock mount
a couple of fender washers to back up the nuts
Is there anything I forgot?
Procedure:
place the rod through the shock tower with the welded nut in the eng bay. Position another nut/washer on top of the shock tower.
Place the plate in between the lowest coils and place washer/nut under it.
How much all thread do you leave extended at the bottom? I wouldn't think it would take much to "load" and "unload" the spring?
Sounds right to me. Here are 2 pictures of the now infamous device. I'd leave 2-3 inches sticking out the bottom, AND, as you tighten the top, make sure you're not "untightening" the bottom. :) Chuck
You actually don't need that nut at all. As you tighten the top nut (thru the shock tower) the "pressure" will pull the plate upward, so the "extra" nut is just that....extra....for safety purposes. Leave it there loosely, or you can use it on the bottom to "double nut" the bottom. BUT.....I said it before....as you tighten the top....keep an eye on the lower nut to make sure it's not loosening. Chuck
