I ordered these items for now. Thank you all for excellent advice. Gtr1999 thank you for taking time to share your knowledge of c3 siffs in detail. Thats why I love this forum and c3 ownership in general.
I will post pics of reassembly next week.
It did not have a gasket on the back cover when I disassembled. Does that mean it has been opened before?
waiting to see if I get a second wond for posi clutch replacement and adjustment as shown by tom of tom’s diffs (rip Tom)

You don't need a rear gasket, black Permatex is fine. IMO you are better off buying quality yokes, they are like a lifetime purchase.

Looking for help assesing current condition of my diff. My amateur assessment is that the ring and pinion look fine and the spider gears look damaged but usable. None of the ring gear bolts are backed out.
I guess the clip that fell off the side yoke and got broken up went through the spider gears.

Update to this thread a few years later.
I replaced one stub axle and refitted the diff to car. It worked well and leak free. The original binding posi issue was solved.
Surprisingly, despite the fact that the circlip fell off and got broken into pieces by the gears the diff did not seem to be damaged.
