If you're doing lots of Drag Launches then a heavy damper and a heavy crank and a heavy flywheel may be advantageous. Dragster typically has Accelerated to high rpm and much angular momentum BEFORE green light and before clock begins to run. Dragster typically tries Not to Decelerate until AFTER race is Over when clock is stopped; usually only a few seconds after race began. Consequently, that same inertia which helped the dragster to launch also hinders its braking as it Decelerates. From a drag race perspective, a heavier damper seems to make sense.

One the other hand, if you're mostly street driving or road racing, where you repeatedly & quickly cycle between Accelerate - Decelerate, a lighter damper and a lighter crank and a lighter flywheel may be advantageous. Applying rotational forces comparable to the dragster's, the lesser angular momentum of a lighter damper etc is more easily Accelerated and Decelerated through typical street driving and road racing cycles. From a road race perspective, a lighter damper seems to make sense.

Seems a typical 6.12" damper for sbc weighs just under 5 pounds. This what I ran on 355ci late model asphalt circle tracker.
Seems a typical 6.75" damper for sbc weighs 8 to 9 pounds.
Seems a typical 8" damper for sbc weighs 11 to 12 pounds.
