Default Recommend a 200R4

My current 200R4 in my 75 vette died last fall losing overdrive and struggling to get third at times. The trans was built local by a shop that is now out of business.. Looking for something that will take a beating I have a Blueprint 355 that they dynoed at 420HP. 3.71 gears in the rear. I would prefer to stay under $2,000 if possible. What is everyone's thought and what have they liked and what have they killed in transmissions.

Mine was built by Vince Janis. Look him up on the turbo buick site, he is one of the best with the 200 4r.

They are in Florida not sure where you are located. Make sure you replace the converter with the new transmission.

Most cost-effective would probably be getting yours repaired. High power and hard use I would think would take out 2nd gear. This could be something fairly simple and common.

Buyer Beware - Going on my experience with Monster Transmission I would not recommend them to anyone. If you happen to need support after the transmission has been paid for and delivered don't expect them to help you.

I agree best bet would be to take it to a local shop to have it looked at.

I have a BTO level 3 trans for the last 5 years, with a 3500 lockup converter. Behind 450 hp 383 it's been bulletproof.

I have not bought from them but know people that have and they seem satisfied. They got 700R4s from them. I went with a TCI 700R4 and converter. I have used TCI transmissions and converters in race cars for many years. Not many company's making or rebuilding 200R4s for high HP or high torque.

TransDepot out of Florida,

I've got a 200 behind my BB, 650 to 700 HP, 4:10 gears and drag radials and I do abuse it on the street

Been in the car a few years with no issues,

I own a few of their trans, converter failed in one they covered it under warranty

Take a look at their web page and see what they have

Neal

i built my own 200-4R 3 years ago using the advice of http://www.ckperformance.com/
I chose them from reading hundreds of threads, my transmission is awesome
I know you are looking for an already built transmission,
so I only bring this up to say please look into what he has done to “beef” up the 200-4 specifically the billet drum among other things when buying a new 200-4 whoever you buy from make sure it has that otherwise it will have the same problems again,
i found when learning about these transmission a LOT of companies advertise “500+” HP
but after I hand built mine and learned everything I could, when you actually read what they do it isn’t enough to handle that kind of power.
you do not want to buy a 200-4R without the proper upgrades installed if you make 400+ hp you are at a threshold where key components must be upgraded to ensure longevity.
My first choice would be CK, they seemed to have trouble with speedy shipping and communication, but the experience and reliability is well worth the hassle.

Art Carr at California Performance Transmission.

I love how this transmission shifts up on full acceleration. It takes the punishment. Art discussed my options on the telephone. It was built for my application not mass produced.

I did a BTO Level 3 700r4 and blew it in five days behind my 406. They welched on the warranty and I thank them every time I see a post like this...……...I had a local trans shop inspect it, and speak with BTO and he too got the ***** of them. There was nothing I did wrong that caused the failure.

The hard lesson I learned was never use a shop that you can not speak to the owner face to face. The internet is full of shady venders. If a problem ever occurs, you can easily go back to the shop and have them make it right. Also be up front with the shop and tell them what you expect. When I told most of the local shops I had 540 horsepower most of them walked away. They were being honest....and I respected that.

This name pops up all of the time and nothing but solid praise......
This also keeps you from having to change anything.....
But be warned......if Vince finds something that need to be upgraded...parts are not cheap.
But overall it is the way to go in the long run.....

The guy that built my 700R rebuilds their crap all the time. He says they use cheap parts.

Last I checked, the Monster warranty only covers frictions and seals. All the hard parts were excluded.
