1976 vette

Hi guys, I have a 1976 Corvette and I had the engine rebuilt, Now issue that I have is that the vet won’t start unless I push up on the shifter and turn the ignition key, Before the engine was Bill I had no issue with it starting now I have to do what I just described to get it started. Any suggestions guys?

Is your car an automatic?
If yes then you might need to adjust the 'neutral safety switch'.

Must automatic. Push on manual shifter all you like. Won't make clutch switch make contact.
