Default strut bar/shock mount bolt question

The shock mounting/strut arm bolt and the arms on the spindle support are different right to left on my 68 convert. The left side has a flat spot on the part of the bolt that goes thru the arms on the spindle support (which has a flat spot on the hole). The right side does not have a flat spot on either the bolt or the hole in the spindle support arms. The bolt has splines that dig into the arms on the spindle support. The old bolt I took off and the new one I ordered are like this. Anyone know why?

for what is worth the right and left side on my 74 has a flat spot and splines on both sides. I just re installed them a while ago!

Perhaps an early/late difference? The non-flatted bolts that go into round holes are probably older. Depending on what is "correct" for your car, one trailing arm or the other may have been swapped with a trailing arm from an older or newer car. My 80 has D-shaped holes, flatted bolts to fit, and still has the splines.

My car is an early production so maybe that is why, although the new part I received three weeks ago was what appears to be the "older" type and there was no question asked when I ordered about production date. Seems like the flat style would be less prone to turning.
