Stopped by Oreilys Auto yesterday..Parked as far away as possible.. While inside, some ahole backed all the way across the parking lot and drove his Pick Up trailer hitch into the front of my car... then burned rubber out of the lot before anyone could get his License Plate Number... his hitch went all the way thru my bumper and headlight and half way up my hood.. No cameras in Lot.. People suck...
I've always parked out in the north forty and away from everyone else.
One day, I returned to my truck and found a car parked directly behind me, blocking me into the spot so I could not back out.
I waited and the guy never came out to his car so I called the local Police.
The officer called a tow truck and when it arrived the car owner came running out to his car to move it.
The officer told the owner to settle up with the tow truck driver, however he did not have the $150.00 cash to pay, so the guy's car was towed and stored.
Yeah.my Corvette .. called my Insurance .. they will be coming next week to appraise damage. It sucks that people take no responsibility for their actions now.. I would never have driven off....ever There was 2 witnesses but neither got Tag #... no cameras .. just sucks
Might be worth while putting up some flyers around town describing the incident and time Basic description of the rig that damaged your car. Small reward for info $100-$200 leading to the meat heads arrest. Never know who might rat out who for a couple hundred bucks.
While in college, I was riding with my best friend in his freshly painted Firebird. We stopped at a large grocery store to get beer, and Bill parked as far away as he could get, out in the parking lot without another car within 100 feet. When we came out of the store, there was some dumb**ck parked next to the Firebird, and of course a nice ding in the door. Bill calmly walked around to the other side of the guy's car and with his boot, caved in the whole side of the guy's door. It's a good thing the guy was still in the store, or it would have been his head.
I understand the park as far away as possible but my opinion is that it doesn't do any good.
I park in the first stall or closest to the store if at all possible.
If people are standing around looking at your car there is less chance someone will make a mistake and damage it and more eyes to see if anything bad does happen.
The problem with parking at the door ...the fat lady with 3-4 rug rats in tow, with cellphone to her ear, that cant seem to navigate the space between parked cars without hitting both at least once with her cart ...The manager saw the felon .. said it was a 20 something white kid , white Ford PU but he paid cash, and no cameras in store either
"parked as far away as he could get, out in the parking lot without another car within 100 feet. When we came out of the store, there was" shopping cart smashed into my Cobra. Some people have to do this kind of stuff on purpose. [/QUOTE]
I agree, people suck. Years back someone smacked the back of back of the car in a lot. Not hard. Just hard enough to ding the bumper and tear the fiberglass where the bumper is attached. They did the right thing and left a note, in case someone was watching. Note said " Sorry I hit your car. Hope everything is ok." with a happy face.

O'Reilly's has an O'Rewards card program, ask the manager if the bad guy used it.

Oh man - so sorry. It's the fear all collector car owners have: some idiot damaging the car you worked so hard on. Hope your insurance covers you - this is the reason you have it so don't be afraid to make a claim.
The 'indictment' should be directed to a society which creates 'a$$holes' instead of useful citizens. The jerk who backing into you (probably on purpose) is just another indicator of how bad it's getting.
I agree that you should make a police report and let them quiz O'Rielly's about who else was in the store at that time. This is what they are supposed to do for a living...
OP; I am really sorry to read this. I understand your anger, I truly do. I have a basic core believe that all people are utter garbage until proven otherwise so that I am never disappointed and on rare occasions, pleasantly surprised.
In any case, as others have mentioned it is just a thing and it can be repaired/replaced as needed. Sure, it sucks, but you are still able to walk and drive in and out of auto parts stores.
I am hoping to finally get my c3 road worthy by the end of the season and if so, you can be absolutely certain that there will be front and rear facing cameras in use at all times...something to consider.

Without seeing the layout of the lot what you're describing sounds like it was deliberate.
Well, I must say I am pleasantly surprised .... I have had Grundy Worldwide Classic Car Ins on all 3 of my Vettes for 10 years or more.. never had any need to call them before..hell, I could not even remember how big my deductible is.. [ BTW , its $0 ] I called them when it happened 2 days ago. They called me at 8AM today, discussed claim, assigned adjuster, he has already been to my house done estimate and gone.. case closed.. Absolutely wonderful company... A bright spot in an otherwise crap situation... I am putting up a REWARD poster at OREILYS .. $500 to anyone who can identify the jerk .. and my personal THANKS to GRUNDY ..
