Default Engine ground cable

Was about to start replacing an old starter with a new mini and ran into this...

the engine ground should not be connected to the back of the starter, correct?

From pictures on the web and my shop manual it looks like it should be connected to the partially obscured blue bolt in the picture. Is that correct?

So, please correct me if wrong, take ground cable off starter, remove bolt on block, clean area around bolt to bare metal, attach cable to block and paint?

Ok, so now I know why they did it that way. Bolt is really tight and stripped!

this should be fun.

It goes from the frame to one of the motor mount bolts.

Thanks for the picture. I was able to get the bolt off. But it was already broken.

I will I’ll look for the motor mount bolts

You can always just take the cable from one of the starter mounting bolts and go over to the frame with it. Not sure how original you want things to be.

Is the bolt the one holding the starter bracket to the engine that is stripped. It does not appear that there is a bracket there in your pic.

Right, there is no bracket and that is the bolt that is stripped/ broken off about 3/8 of an inch in the block.

i bolted the strap to the motor mount. I need to take it off again and clean that area better for a better electrical connection. But it worked like it was meant to be there.

i do not care if it is like factory at all.
