It is louder at idle and WOT but not obnoxious or anything.

I plan on leaving mine as is. For my engine I dont think ill get much better performance taking the caps off and my wife is fine with the sound.
I believe they are capped but I'd have to check to be sure.

Not too bad with windows up on the interstate and I can still hold a conversation with passenger.

I just moved into a newer subdivision and haven't had the neighbors complain yet.

How did you like going from a 383 to the LS motor? Thinking about selling my 383 and going LS3 but just curious to hear from someone who has done it.

Classic chambered 3 inch inserts. Only revved to about 3000 rpm due to camera woman looking like she wanted to run out of the garage.

Haha nice. Chambered inserts or louvered?

Oh boy haha. Can't wait to hear mine! Definitely a little louder than the 2.25" Sweet Thunders! The 3" will be good though. I drove it around with the straight side pipes and could really tell how much the 2.25 has been choking it out.

There is an echo effect from being in the garage and I think they will be a little quieter outside.
But they are loud. When I talked to Eric he said anything 500 hp or higher will be choked by any insert
smaller than the 3 inch. FWIW they sound meaner in person.

Well, you'll lose some higher RPM performance with say 2.5"flowpath vs. 3", but 2.5" will not "kill" performance like the OE chambered sidepipes of the C2 era. Those had 1-5/8" cores. 2.5" is a great compromise if you want good street performance plus decent noise control.

Is 2.25" a significant difference from 2.5"? But yeah, the hooker glasspack inserts that came with my pipes were awful. I think they were 1 5/8

There's not a huge difference in flow between 2.25" & 2.5", & I don't think there is a significant decibel difference. Going from 2" flowpath to 2.25" & 2.5", there is a big difference in flow. Going from 2.5" to 3" there is a quantum leap in flow.

I like it. Gas mileage is much better with the 4l70 swap too. I also added aftermarket ac so it feels like a different car. Power is different though. Lots more top end, torque feels nice too. I have a pretty high stall in this one.

My first attempt:
This was just too loud
The header wrap worked great the pipes never got hot enough to burn.

Second attempt:

Spiral baffles with easy to remove center plugs.
These are quieter than the glass pack idea but still loud. I have not removed the center plugs and fired it up yet.

Baffle plug secured with cap screw through threaded bolt

Looking in end of sidepipe. Plug will be easy to remove or reinstall

That’s a really neat idea to wrap the insert with header wrap and then insert it into the side pipe itself. I may try that as well, maybe I won’t have to buy heat shields

It really works well. The temp was less than others with heat shields, a lot less.
I wrapped them completely then did extra thick wraps and each end so the insert was a real tight fit into the pipe.
There was no need for any sort of attachments or screws from the insert to the side pipe.

You may have just saved me $300! I should send you a case of beer lol. I’m planning on getting the vettepack 2.5” inserts.
