The factory wire going to the stock coil is a resistance wire. But it starts out as 12vdc at the fuse block. You could just tap into that wire, close to the fuse block, and run another 12awg wire up to the Pertronix coil. You could just wind up and tie-off the stock resistance wire for converting back to points if you or another owner chose to do so.
On my 69, instead of removing the stock wiring or disconnecting it and having it hanging lose I just connected it normally so it looks, and is stock then ran a 12ga bypass wire from the IGN terminal in the pic to the coil. If I want to run points all I have to do is unplug the 12 ga wire from the IGN terminal. There is a rubber insulation plug that goes through the firewall between the top of the steering column and the top of the gas pedal mount bolts that holds the interior insulation down and comes through within six inches of the base of the coil. The plug is actually hollow almost to the tip and I just clipped the end, or tip of the point on the engine firewall side off and ran the wire through that plug as it makes a perfect insulator and you would never even notice the whole thing wasn't stock.
What size inline fuse are you guys using on the 12ga. wire?
