That falling sound you heard was the gear on the end of the stem shaft. My money says it's inside the clock.

SMF,
If you're going to the trouble of pulling the clock, this could be a good time to upgrade the works to the quartz conversion. I install them on all my vintage cars. Very affordable on eBay and an easy install. Your clock will finally keep perfect time forever.

Wow! How rare! Not your car, but a clock that works. Or did work. I laminated a C3 Crossed Flag symbol, cutting it to the proper diameter and placed it over the clock face. Looks like it belongs there.

Hey! Just leave the defective clock in the gauge cluster and buy a $10 watch. At least the dead clock will be exactly right twice a day! (Can't say that for a working one....)

If you need to change the time, just pull the clock fuse until it is at the correct time until you can get to pulling it out to fix the stem problem.

The pinion reset gear is press fit... unusual that it came off.
But, the good news is that the gear will fall inside the housing, the bad news is you'll have to pull the clock apart to get to the gear. Once you do, you can press the re-set pinion on the shaft and either peen the end, or put a tiny (tiny) weld on the end of the shaft. Personally I'd peen it and move on but you'll need to make sure you keep the **** on the shaft when you do this. It gives the shaft something to sit on when you peen it. If you don't you'll bend the threaded end of the shaft and then you'll be double screwed.
If you don't find the reset pinion gear, email me at service@Willcoxcorvette.com. I'm almost positive I've got a good used one here.

Disconnect the battery and wait till the clock setting is correct. Then hook the battery back up. Shouldn't be a problem....
