Hi All, I have a 1970 350/300hp convertible "survivor." The engine matches and appears very unmodified. That said however, it has aluminum valve covers and understand that it not correct. They definitely look like they would came with the car in terms of aging, etc. Any chance they may have came with a base engine? The engine code is V0218CTG. My production # is 8603 and built in early May. Also, it appears to be a '70"E" judging by the distributor shielding and has an open type air cleaner. Any input would be great...thanks
There’s always a chance, but it’s much more likely that someone switched it along the way. The aluminum ones look better and seal better.
All kinds of whacky things have come out of GM (and presumably all other make) factories. Very hard to prove that a one off item was done at the factory. NCRS occasionally includes variations from “correct” if enough of them are documented but the more unusual, the more proof that you’re going to need.
if it bothers you, I’d suggest getting a couple of correct stamped steel covers. Otherwise, I’d just enjoy them as an upgrade.
