Hmm. Check those spark plugs... From the "you learn something new file"...
Changing my plugs... My 1969 SBC had tapered spark plugs installed. And when I pulled one and my mechanic buddy saw the new gasket plugs I just bought, he said those are wrong. I returned them. However I looked online for '69 sbc plugs and it said gasket type were the correct ones over and over no matter the website (yet I have tapered installed). WTF??
Well I thought, maybe the heads were changed over the years. Nope, we pulled valve cover to find code 3927186 heads. Correct for 1969 sbc Vette.
Someone had installed tapered seat spark plugs in gasket seat heads! The wrong ones install fine but aren't supposed to be there.
I ASSUMED the previous owner installed the correct TYPE plugs and looked to replace with like kind. Good thing I did some detective work. I never paid much mind to the different types of spark plugs until now. Might be worth checking yours if you made a recent purchase
Unless they have specialized in early Corvettes, 'young' mechanics have little knowledge of the old stuff. If you take a C3 to a "new" [to you] mechanic, ask him/her to show you the manuals they have for working on your car. If they don't have any, or can't tell you a reasonable story of how they will get good info to work on your car.....LEAVE !

Funny thing is, the previous owner WAS a mechanic. But he might have pulled the plugs from THAT previous owner and just followed suit with same wrong plugs.

Im sure he knew they would work regardless ... thats just it.. as the saying goes the carpenters house is always the one needing the most work..
