While I’m in the console rebuilding the HV A/C, I thought to address an issue with my neutral safety switch. Since I’ve had it, the car starts fine in park but won’t turn over in neutral. 73 auto if this makes a difference.
Two questions. First, how do I test the switch to make sure it’s working properly? Second, if it is, how do I adjust it so that it will start in park and neutral?
Use an ohmmeter to test the switch. Disconnect the wiring from the switch; connect ohmmeter to the two switch connections.
When the shifter is in PARK or in NEUTRAL, the ohmmeter should show 0 ohms (short). If it doesn't, make adjustment to the switch position until you DO get 0 ohms in PARK and in NEUTRAL position. Then remove ohmmeter and re-connect switch wiring.
