As long as I have to wait for my power steering pulley, I decided to replace my front crank seal. I got the seal that is offset 1/8 of an inch forward, so it wont be riding on the old wear spot on the balancer. Great idea. Now with the crank pulley off I got the pulley number,,,, it's a 3858533 BJ like we thought. Can anybody tell if the balancer is on as far as it should be? Maybe this is why the lower pulley doesn't line up with the upper pulley.
Edit: In looking at the back side of the balancer it's almost flush with the timing cover. I guess it's all the way on.
kodpkd while you're in there consider getting the water pump pulley number just to eliminate another potential issue.... since you've got the belts halfway off anyway.....
And the good thing is that the cast iron PS pulley 3834720 should now line up with the crank.

I'm sure the water pump is original. I got your last MSG after I was finished. The crank seal wasn't as hard as I thought. Everything came off and went on just like it was supposed to. I could reach everything from the top. I did install a water pump shim,,, 1/8 inch,,,, made it line up with the crank pulley. Now if I ever get the pump pulley from corvettemods, I will be all set..
Sound good. If everything lines up with the shim then it doesn't really matter what part number it is (unless you wanted deep groove pulleys?). Did you happen to write down the water pump pulley number?

OOOOMMMMMGGGGGGG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Good on corvettemod.com, the cast iron pulley came today. Perfect install. Got to test drive the new power steering. It's like going from a 1953 pickup with manual steering to a Lexus...... HUGE difference with power steering. I never thought it would be this good. Any body considering the upgrade should jump on it. WOW! WOW! WOW!
Increased caster give it a "heavier" feel off center. It returns to center better and really helps stability the faster you go. If you're happy with it that's fine....but whenever you do an alignment try to dial in all the caster you can. Stock upper arms can only get so much..like 2.5* maybe 3* usually...but it helps.
My car goes into the alignment shop tomorrow. I found the shims missing from the upper control arm.
ADD: Finished the alignment. Still drives nice with the new power steering. But didn't change any with the alignment.
ADD: Yep,,, I could only get +2.2* castor with original uppers.
