Default throttle cable connection

OK sort of a dumb question but what is this rubber part that fits in the throttle lever on the carb that allows you to connect the throttle cable? It's a nut inside with a rubber sleeve that fits in the large hole. Mine is a little ragged and I'd like to get a new one but don't know what it's called!

Since it's a aftermarket carburetor, make sure that you can get full throttle travel when the pedal is depressed fully.

I would put a stud in that lower hole for better throttle response with less pedal. I 've never seeen a grommet like that before

Actually, all the C2 Vettes with Holley carbs used the rubber grommet with the plastic sleeve. The C2's have a throttle rod with a 90-degree bend in the end that then goes through the grommet - that's the reason for it. On a C3 with a cable and a hole in the swaged cable end, you do not want to use the C2 style rubber grommet - that's a real Bubba-setup you have going there. Install a screw-in stud in the throttle lever and hook up the throttle cable directly to the stud. The stud should be in the lower hole - not the top hole, to assure full throttle travel.

See photos of the C2-type rubber grommet connection here, and the problem with using the top mounting hole in the lever. For C3, do not use the rubber grommet - install a correct stud in the lower hole in the lever and directly attach the cable the way the stock setup is done:

Thanks - I will look into this and get it fixed. I have checked out at the Lokar throttle cables and they look good. For some reason my throttle cable has the flat hole at the end, not sure where it came from, it has been on the car the entire time I have had it.

thanks

As noted earlier, the cable is set up for a stud - the flat hole at the end is correct - you don't need to change cable. Just install a correct stud in the throttle lever and attach the cable like the stock setup.

Mr. Gasket makes the stud.....Edelbrock has them too for twice the money.
Put the stud in the circled hole.

OK well I went ahead and ordered a Lokar throttle cable and the stud for the carb and it is much nicer. The Lokar cable and brackets are very well made and actually came with helpful instructions. From the old cable, I cut off the end by the pedal and reused the little plastic sleeve. Works great now.

I used this cable: https://www.summitracing.com/parts/lok-tc-1000ht

and this bracket: https://www.summitracing.com/parts/lok-srk-4000
